Roy Wilberg, 89, of Alexandria, formerly of Hoffman, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Barrett Care Center. Roy Manford Wilberg was born on February 3, 1925 in Kensington, MN, the son of Henry and Inga (Larson) Wilberg. He was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church and graduated from Kensington High School.
Roy worked for various farmers in the Kensington and Cyrus area, before enlisting in the United States Army. Roy served for several years and for a time, was stationed in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, Roy worked as a machinist for Graco in Minneapolis. He attended Dunwoody College, receiving formal machinist training. On May 19, 1951, Roy married Betty Rose Larson. Roy continued working as a machinist, until 1965, when they moved to Hoffman and started farming as partners with Harold and Lawrence Larson. Roy and Betty retired from farming in 1975, but Roy continued to maintain a machine shop, which he later relocated to Hoffman, when the couple moved there in 1979. Roy was regarded as a brilliant mind due to his creativity and technical ability as a machinist. He designed and built his own homes, of which there was not an inch of space wasted. In 1991, Roy was included in the Sterling Edition of "Who's Who" worldwide, a publication recognizing individuals for achievements in their profession; and in 1992, was included in the Platinum Edition.
Roy was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, where he volunteered his many talents, until his failing health and eyesight prevented him from doing so. Roy is survived by his wife, Betty of Barrett; brother, Oran of Kensington; two sisters, Marion Fahl of Morris and LaVerne (Don) Olson of Hoffman; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd; sister-in-law, Ella Wilberg; brother-in-law, Harold Fahl; and nephew, Lyndon Wilberg.
