Ruth Evavold

Ruth (Larson) Evavold, 88, passed away at the Johanna House near Ashby on Saturday, November 7, 2009.

Ruth Esther Pattison was born December 10, 1920, to Delbert and Mabel Pattison in Sanford Township, Grant County. She attended country school District 60. After her father passed away when she was 13 years old, Ruth and her mother moved to Herman where she attended school Ruth later moved to Elbow Lake where she worked and went to school graduating from Elbow Lake High School in 1939. On December 10, 1940, she married Alton Larson at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Iner Pikop. She was bookkeeper at Leis Motors for 22 years. Alton died on December 15, 1978. On October 16, 1982, she married Roy Evavold, and they lived on Roy's farm until his death in May 1993. She loved being back out in the country and enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening. She especially enjoyed her rose garden at her house in town. She moved into Elbow Lake in the fall of 1993, and due to dementia, became a resident at the JoHannah House in 1998, where she received excellent care for 11 years. She was an active member of the West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church and, while she was married to Roy, enjoyed the fellowship at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. She loved baking and sharing her goodies with others. If you were invited for dinner, you always had fresh rolls. Ruth enjoyed traveling and fishing. She loved catching Northerns so she could make fish soup. Music was also very important in her life, and she could pick up the harmony to just about any song. Ruth is survived by her children Joy Dell (Myron) Haberer of Ashby, Darryl (Julie) Larson of Elbow Lake, and Elliot (Teresa) Larson of Warroad; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include Roy's family, Roger (Bev) Evavold and Donna Sonmor both of Fergus Falls, Gaylan (Mary) Evavold of Elbow Lake, Audrey (Rodney) Pletan of Forest Lake, and Carolyn (Ron) Nelson of Rochester; 13 step-grandchildren and 33 step-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands Alton and Roy, brothers Dwaine "Bud" and Earl Pattison, sisters Floris Kloos and Joyce Pikop, infant granddaughter Diane Haberer, and an infant step-great-grandson, Nathan Evavold.

Funeral Service: 11am Friday, Nov. 13, Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church Burial: West Elbow Lake Lutheran Cemetery Visitation: 5-7 pm Thursday, Nov. 12, Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake; one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
