Ruth Mickelson

Ruthie Mickelson, 92, formerly of Elbow Lake, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Christ Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with the Rev. Donald Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elbow Lake. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth Delores (Wohlers) Mickelson was born August 9, 1920, to William and Mathilde (Kessel) Wohlers in Pelican Lake Township near Ashby, Minnesota. She was baptized on October 3, 1920, at Christ Lutheran Church in Pomme de Terre Township, confirmed on August 26, 1934, and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1939. Ruthie was united in marriage to Ernest Mickelson on July 6, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, and that December, they returned to Elbow Lake. Ernie was inducted into the Army in January 1943. Ruthie worked for Erickson Furniture and the office of the Grant County Clerk of Courts. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and sewing. She and Ernie lived in Elbow Lake until 1973 when they moved to Pelican Lake near Ashby. Ernie passed away on June 17, 1979. Ruthie moved to Elbow Lake in November 2002. In 2012, she moved to Johnson's Adult Care Home in rural Barrett. Ruthie was an active member of Christ LWML and was at death an honorary member. Survivors include her many nephews and nieces, and her "special family," the David Mjolsness family: David, Penny, Alex, Britta and Andrew. David called Ruth every Sunday night for years, right up until the Sunday prior to her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, parents William and Mathilde Wohlers, and five sisters, Myrtle Woessner, Margie Schaeffer, Emma Hanson Lade, Ellen Hanson, and Esther Johnson. Memorials are preferred to the Christ Lutheran Church or Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Elbow Lake.
