Shelley Kay Hartman, age 57, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 15, 2014 at the Evansville Care Center. Shelley was born on June 2, 1957 to Merle and Esther (Shuck) Hartman. She grew up on the family farm west of Wendell that had been passed down from her grandparents, George and Marie Shuck. Shelley was baptized, confirmed and attended Sunday school at Lawrence Presbyterian Church in rural Wendell. She attended grade school in Wendell and graduated from ELHS in Elbow Lake in 1975. From there she attended Brainerd Tech studying floral design. In 1977 she moved to Denver and worked for several florists and green houses, honing her craft. Shelley was also an instructor at the Denver Academy of Floral Design. She also worked in Canon City, CO as a florist. In 1994, Shelley purchased Knot 'N Vane Gift and Floral in Elbow Lake and moved home. Customers soon became aware that she was an outstanding florist. She was able to take a few flowers and turn them into a work of art. In 2012, she closed her shop and went to work at Wild Rose Floral in Fergus Falls and soon became the manager. In addition to her love of flowers and gardening, she loved to fish, whether it was fly fishing in the Colorado Rockies, sun fishing in the channel at Ten Mile Lake, or ice fishing with her brother-in -law and nephews. She was also an avid reader, loved cooking, collecting cookbooks, and watching the Broncos and Vikings. Shelley was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her extra special friend, Bill Jacobson; her two puppies, Sweet Pea and Bucky; her sisters, Bonnie (Dale) Mickelson, Linnea (Jim) Bakeman and, Lenore (Toots) (Mike) Bevins. Never having any children of her own, Shelley always considered her sisters' kids and grandkids her own. They include Renee Backman and husband Tim, boys Cody and Hunter. Steve Nelson Corey and Jenny Andreasen, children Claire, Char and Max. Todd, Kirby and Erin Andreasen. Nick Bevins, children, Britney, Christian and Hope. Amy Bevins Anderson, husband Tom, children Alex, Jordan, Dawn and Curtis. Dustin and Jenny Bevins, children, Britany, Aaron and Taylor. Her entire family and friends will miss her deeply. Shelley's value has never been measured by any wealth she has or hasn't acquired. Her true worth is measured by her wide and diverse circle of friends. Prayer Service will be held at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, on Saturday, November 22, 2014 with the wake and celebration commencing at 2 PM, and prayer service at 3 PM. Reverend Chris Eldredge will be officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake.
