Vernon Joseph Stramer was born August 14, 1933, in Erdahl Township, Minneosta, to Joseph and Margaurite (Hutchinson) Stramer. He attended school in Erdahl and would graduate from Elbow Lake. After high school, Vernon enlisted in the Army. He traveled to countries such as Germany, Rome, and London.
On November 17, 1962, Vernon was united in marriage to Janet Becker. The couple made their home on the family farm in Ashby, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children, Susan, Michael, and Joan. In 1992, Janet passed away, and Vernon would go on to raise their children. Vernon was wed to Luella (Kubitz) Abel on January 15, 1994, and the couple would reside on the family farm.
Vernon enjoyed farming, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards, and Whist was his game. Vernon didn’t like getting a bad partner, and made it known if you were it. He was a great dancer, and talented on roller skates. The Barrett Pavilion was a place he not only danced, but roller skated as well. Vernon and his family would go together to Alexandria for roller skating outings. He was a great storyteller and loved sharing stories of when he was younger to his family, friends, and loved ones. His stories instilled values not only into his children, but his grandchildren as well.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Luella; children, Susan (Ike) Lohse, Michael Stramer, Joan (Gary) Olson; grandchildren, Sarah (Bud) Bertrand, Kari Hunnel (Casey), Krista (Adam) Fix, Kirby Lohse (Ellissa), Chelsie (Oscar) Vasco, Tanner Olson, Sarah (Cory) Glover; 10 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
