Viola Beeler, 93, a resident of the Barrett Care Center, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the Barrett Care Center. Funeral services for Viola Beeler will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with the Rev. Bob Toso officiating. Burial will be in Ness Cemetery, Elbow Lake. Visitation is one hour before the service at church on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to the United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake.
Viola was born on February 15, 1917, near Lake Preston, South Dakota, to Arthur M. and Laura R. (Gullickson) Johnson. She graduated from Tintah High School.
On September 24, 1938, Viola was united in marriage to Chester "Archie" Beeler at St. John's Church in Elbow Lake. The couple made their home in Elbow Lake where Vi and her husband operated the Standard Oil Station for 23 years. Archie passed away in 1987, and Vi remained in Elbow Lake until 2006, when she moved to the Barrett Care Center.
Viola was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Beeler of Kennesaw, Georgia, and daughter-in-law Lucia Beeler, White Plains, Maryland; grandchildren Dawn (Chip) Medley of Waldorf, Maryland, and David (Madeline) Beeler of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and four great-grandchildren, RJ, Christopher, Sean, and Kaytlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband Archie, her son Duane, her parents, and five brothers and one sister.
